COMPETITIVE SPORT 2011-12 ROUNDUP

In September 2011, Mr McAvoy took over the role of Competitive Sport Leader and – working alongside a team of key staff members, Clavering families and enthusiastic children – transformed competitive sport at Clavering.

2011-2012 became, by far and away, the most successful year in Clavering’s history for competitive sport in terms of competitions entered, competitions won and the percentage of children having the opportunity to represent the school.

A magnificent 82% of children in Year 6 represented the school in competitive sport during 2011-2012 and we competed in inter-sport competitions in TEN different sports across Key Stage 2, plus organising our first ever North Hartlepool Family of Schools’ Summer Games for children across the school.

It was an AMAZING year for all involved!

Football:

Our Year 6 Boys’ Football Team became the Year 6 Boys’ Northern Schools’ League Champions having won every match with a goal difference of plus 22! Captain Josh Lester was the top scorer across all three boys’ leagues.

Our Year 6 Boys’ Football Team became the Boys’ Hartlepool Town Cup Champions! They WON their final 5-1!

Our Year 6 Boys’ Football Team became the ESFA Cup Champions!

Our Girls' Football Team came an impressive second in two Tees Valley Girls' Football Tournaments.

Our Year 5 Football Team competed very well in their first season together, coming third in their football league and they were also unbeaten in the Year 5 Cup Competition, narrowly missing out on a place in the semi-finals due to goal difference.

Our Clavering Penalty Team became the HUFC Half-Time Penalty Competition Champions!

Other sports:

Our Year 6 Tag Rugby Teams came first and second in the Cluster Tag Rugby Competition. Our Clavering A Tag Rugby Team then went on to become the Town Tag Rugby Champions! Then, despite injuries, the Clavering A Tag Rugby Team came third in the Tees Valley Finals.

Despite missing nine children due to the Tees Valley Tag Rugby Finals, our Year 6 Sportshall Athletics Team came a brilliant second at the Cluster Sportshall Athletics Competition.

Our Year 6 Kwik Cricket Team and Year 5 Kwik Cricket Team made the semi-finals of their respective Town Kwik Cricket Finals.

Our two Years 5 & 6 Netball Teams did extremely well in the Cluster Tournament, with one team coming second overall and then going on to compete in the Netball Town Basketball Finals.

Our Year 6 Basketball Team came second in the Town Basketball Finals.

Having won their Cluster Skipping Competition, our Year 4 Skipping Team came second in the Town Skipping Finals, missing out on first place by just two points! The children won the largest number of gold and silver medals on the day.

Our Year 3 Tennis Team won their Cluster Tennis Tournament and did extremely well in the Town Tennis Finals.

Our Key Stage 2 Swimming Team was made up of boys and girls from across Key Stage 2. They represented Clavering at the Town Swimming Gala, competing brilliantly in their individual races and relays.

Following success in the Cluster Cross Country Competition, thirty of our runners from our Years 3-4, Year 5 and Year 6 Cross Country Teams participated in Town Cross Country Finals. Particular congratulations to Thomas Clasper (Year 5) and Liam Pritchard (Year 6) who were both selected to represent Hartlepool in the Tees Valley Finals.

In addition:

  • we raised an incredible £2,483.35 for Sport Relief;
  • we held our first ever North Hartlepool Family of Schools’ Summer Games;
  • a group of Year 5 and 6 pupils attended the Olympic Games;
  • to further enhance Physical Education and Competitive Sport, we joined the Olympics’ ‘Get Set plus’ and Youth Sport Trust’s ‘School Games’ networks; and
  • most importantly of all, we introduced our Clavering Sports Values: DETERMINATION, HONESTY, PASSION, RESPECT, SELF-BELIEF and TEAM WORK.

What a FANTASTIC year!

CONGRATULATIONS to all the Clavering children who participated in Competitive Sport in 2011-2012!
