COMPETITIVE SPORT 2015-2016 ROUNDUP

In 2015-2016, we successfully renewed the GOLD standard of the 'Youth Sport Trust Quality Mark' and the GOLD standard of the 'School Games Mark' and enjoyed, arguably, our most successful ever year for competitive sport!

2015-2016 saw a magnificent 94% of children in our 2015-2016 Year 6 Cohort representing Clavering in competitive sport and children from Year 2 to Year 6 competed in a record number of different sports in inter-school competitive sport events. Some of the highlights included:

  • medalling in FOURTEEN sports formats in Town Finals: tag rugby, mixed football, girls’ football, basketball, tri golf, multi-skills, orienteering, tennis, table tennis, mixed kwik cricket, girls’ kwik cricket, athletics, sportshall athletics and cross country running;
  • winning Town Finals in SIX sports formats: tag rugby, mixed football, basketball, tri golf, multi-skills, orienteering and sportshall athletics;
  • representing the town in TEN Tees Valley Finals: tag rugby, mixed football, dodgeball, basketball, tri golf, orienteering, table tennis, athletics, sportshall athletics and cross country running;
  • winning a silver medal in the Tees Valley Sportshall Athletics Finalsgold medal in the Tees Valley Athletics Finals and a gold medal in the Tees Valley Basketball Finals (coming first out of over 200 Tees Valley schools).

What a year!

What was particularly pleasing in 2015-2016 was the success of our 'Clavering Olympics' which gave 100% of children from Reception to Year 6 the opportunity to compete in intra-school sport, representing one of seven prominent Olympic nations.
